1 Notable Veteran NFL QB Remains Without A Team

At this point of the offseason, the NFL has entered the doldrums, so to speak, as teams are holding OTAs and just about every viable free agent has found a new team.

However, there is one notable free agent who is still without a team, and he just happens to be a former Pro Bowler who was the starting quarterback on a team that won the Super Bowl.

That man is Carson Wentz.

Wentz, the No. 2 pick in the 2016 NFL Draft, ended up starting in all 16 games as a rookie for the Philadelphia Eagles, and although they went 7-9, he showed some promise.

The very next season, Wentz threw for 3,296 yards and 33 touchdowns in the first 13 games of the schedule while leading the NFL in QBR and leading Philly to an 11-2 record.

But he suffered a torn ACL in Week 14, forcing him to miss the rest of the reason and changing the whole trajectory of his career.

Wentz could only sit and watch as Nick Foles, his backup, led the Eagles to their first Super Bowl championship.

Since then, he has had trouble staying healthy, and he found himself being criticized for what some saw as egotistical behavior and play.

He has also been benched more than once — in 2020, he was benched in favor of Jalen Hurts in Philly, and last season, as a member of the Washington Commanders, he lost his starting job to Taylor Heinicke.

Wentz’s days of being a starting QB may be over, but he could serve as a decent backup, if only a team would give him a chance.
