Years ago, Danilo Gallinari drew rave reviews among NBA scouts, with some comparing his game to Larry Bird’s, and the resemblance was definitely there, at least at first glance.

He’s a big forward who can shoot lights out, a prolific scorer who’s more athletic than people think, and a guy who had the potential to be a perennial All-Star.

However, never-ending injury woes have derailed Gallinari’s career, up to the point where he’s now become a bit of an afterthought for teams and GMs.

Even so, Miami Heat beat writer Barry Jackson (via NBA Central) recently reported that the Heat could be a potential destination for him next season.

Gallinari was torn between the Chicago Bulls and Boston Celtics last offseason, eventually choosing to play for the team he grew up rooting for.

But he couldn’t even make his debut in Boston after suffering yet another season-ending injury, although he’s expected to be back to full strength for the start of the upcoming campaign.

There’s no denying that the Heat could use another sharpshooter and scoring option, and Gallinari’s offensive versatility and size would give them an elite floor-spacer, assuming he’s healthy — which is always the big ‘if.’

The Heat don’t have that much cap space and are most likely waiting to see what happens with Damian Lillard before making any big moves.

But it shouldn’t take a lot of money to get Gallinari at this point in his career, especially now that he could be looking to play his way back into the league.
