Kaydo Achieves a Hole-in-One at Village Green Golf Course

Nov. 1—It took 40 years of getting out on the course, but at the age of almost 74, Bill Kaydo got to experience every golfers dream.

Kaydo recently scored a hole in one on the No. 7 hole at Village Green Golf Course in North Kingsville.

He said he played the seniors tees for all but the par-3 that day in which he shot a 78. For his ace, Kaydo used his 7-iron for the 140-yard hole.

Kaydo didn’t realize what had happened until the ball fell into the cup.

“The flag was actually in the back,” he said. I thought the ball rolled off the green. one of the guys with me, though said, ‘I think that ball went in.’ I said no, it rolled off the green.”

But as Kaydo thought about his chipping wedge, his friend charged the golf cart towards the green.

“He hollered, ‘it’s in,’” Kaydo said with a laugh.

Even more fortunate for Kaydo, was he had friends and family on hand to witness his moment.

“I was playing with my brother and a friend, my wife and her girlfriends were playing behind us and they were able to see it also,” he said. “I think they were more excited than I was.”

Course manager Adam Smith told Kaydo there was probably around 3,500 rounds played at Village Green this summer, and there has been a couple of hole-in-ones reported. Smith believes it was the first one on No. 3.

Getting to hear about people having their dream come true is a rewarding experience for the course manager.

“Absolutely,” Smith said. “That’s a very lucky thing. There’s a lot of luck involved as well as a little skill obviously. There’s several PGA players that have never had one, so that kind of says it all.”

Kaydo said he called the titleist golf company because that’s the clubs he uses.

“They sent me a little plaque and a keychain,” he said. “I have the scorecard and the ball, and I’m trying to get the flag. It’s all pretty cool.”

Kaydo said he’ll continue playing golf about three times a week.

And even though he’s reached a plateau that most golfers never do, Kaydo said he’ll still continue to enjoy the game just as much as ever.

“I want to do it again,” he said. “I enjoy playing golf with my brother and my best friend. It gives me something to do and it’s the only exercise I get. There’s not a whole lot you can do when you’re 74.”

Hitting a hole in one, though, was definitely one of them.
