The Philadelphia Eagles scored a thrilling 37-34 win in overtime on Sunday against the Buffalo Bills, a team that seems to continue to find ways to inflict its own wounds.
The Eagles trailed at one point by 10, but they mounted a comeback and took a 28-24 lead early in the fourth quarter, only to fall behind, 31-28, with just under two minutes left on a touchdown by Buffalo wide receiver Gabe Davis.
Philly got the ball back and looked to get into field goal range, but star center Jason Kelce was called for a false start on that drive — twice.
He says that he was upset as a result, via his “New Heights” podcast.
Because of the two five-yard penalties that were assessed, Philly had to get a 59-yard field goal from kicker Jake Elliott in order to force overtime, and Kelce says he was upset that he put Elliott in the situation of having to make such a long field goal.
But in overtime, after Buffalo scored a field goal of their own, Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts ran the ball into the end zone for the touchdown that won the game.
The win boosted the Eagles’ record to an NFL-best 10-1, and the defending NFC champs continue to look like arguably the best team in football.
They will face a big test this Sunday when they host the San Francisco 49ers, the team they routed in last season’s NFC title game, but only after their quarterback, Brock Purdy, tore the UCL in his throwing elbow early in the contest.
