Andre Braugher’s Character In Scrapped Scooby-Doo Holiday Sequel Revealed By Producer

The late Andre Braugher’s character in the scrapped Scoob-Doo movie, Scoob! Holiday Haunt has been revealed by writer and producer Tony Cervone. Intended to serve as a prequel to 2020’s Scoob!, the Warner Bros. project was shelved in August 2022 alongside Batgirl as part of the studio’s broader cost-saving measures enacted by its new management. While there were no plans from Warner Bros. Discovery to ever release the finished product, the movie’s creative team continued to complete the nearly-finished Scooby-Doo project following the controversial announcement.

Following Braugher’s tragic passing on December 11, 2023, Cervone took to Instagram to share some never-before-seen images of his character, Chef Dave, from the cancelled movie. Check out his post below:

Calling the late Brooklyn Nine-Nine star an “extremely talented, kind, funny gentleman”, Cervone lamented the fact his performance was shelved in favor of a tax write-off. He also revealed that the actor took the role because he always had “a soft spot for Scooby-Doo.”

Will Audiences Ever Get To See Braugher’s Scooby-Doo Movie?

While it is not unusual for any number of Hollywood projects to be cancelled at various stages of development, it has not been until more recently that studios like Warner Bros. have begun opting to shelve nearly completed projects ahead of their intended release. Though Warner Bros. would later backtrack on their more recent plans to shelve Coyote Vs. Acme in favor of another tax write-off, both Scoob! Holiday Haunt and Batgirl remain firmly locked away from audiences.

Everything We Lost With The Batgirl Cancellation

A lot was lost when Batgirl was canceled, with it setting up many DCEU elements including new heroes, villains, and some familiar faces.

Although the current Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav has been adamant that such cancellations have been a necessary sacrifice made to secure the financial health of the company, these moves have not been made without considerable backlash and condemnation from both Hollywood creatives and wider audiences. The moves would even attract the attention of US Congressman Joaquin Castro, who labeled the practice “predatory and anti-competitive” and called for a federal investigation into the decisions.

Perhaps given enough time and continued interest from viewers, Warner Bros. may eventually elect to follow the precedent set by Coyote Vs. Acme and allow Cervone and the Scoob! Holiday Haunt team to shop their movie to other distributors. Allowing audiences to experience one of Braugher’s final roles could also serve as an additional enticement behind reversing their original decision. While only time will tell if viewers ever get to see Braugher’s Scooby-Doo­ character, his memory would be far better served with the movie finally made available rather than permanently locked away from fans.
