Kurt Russell addresses the rumors of appearing in Quentin Tarantino’s final movie The Movie Critic. The 72-year-old first began working up with Tarantino on the slasher movie Death Proof in his and Robert Rodriguez’s Grindhouse duology before going on to star in The Hateful Eight and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. Following the announcement of Tarantino’s final movie The Movie Critic, there have been several speculations surrounding the movie, with Russell’s name being floated as one of the possible cast members.

In a recent conversation with Josh Horowitz on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Russell, addressing The Movie Critic rumors, revealed that he’s unaware if he’s going to be starring in Tarantino’s forthcoming movie. He, however, shared that he’s very open to once again working with the legendary director, adding that their previous collaborations have generally been a delight. Read his full comments below:

I have no idea, I never know. He just calls up or someone calls up and he says hey, and you just go to work. I love working with him and he said a long time ago when we did Death Proof part of Grindhouse, he said “yeah I’m gonna do 10. By the time I’m 60 i’m pretty much going to be done. We had a long conversation about that which was really interesting so I guess he’s sticking to it. He’s since talked about that and I think his reasoning is spot on. If he wants me to carry the lead’s water, I will, I don’t care who it is. I mean he’s just a fun person to work with, quite amazing.

Which Other Tarantino Vets Might Feature in The Movie Critic?

Samuel L Jackson points a gun in Pulp Fiction

Reports about The Movie Critic first surfaced earlier in the year when multiple sources revealed the movie title and sparse details about the plotline. Following these reports, different speculations about the movie began flying around, especially regarding the cast members. Since the movie was rumored to be about Pauline Kael, one of the most influential movie critics of all time, many suggested that the movie would have a female lead. Tarantino, however, dispelled those rumors, adding that his protagonist would be more like Travis Bickle, the anti-hero main character from Martin Scorsese’s Taxi Driver.

As of right now, no cast member has been confirmed to be appearing in The Movie Critic. But, just like Kurt Russell, Tarantino has a slew of actors he has clearly enjoyed working with over the years. Christoph Waltz, Uma Thurman and Brad Pitt, among a few others, have all worked with Tarantino on multiple occasions, and it’s likely that they could once again feature in his last work. Samuel L. Jackson is another likely face to appear in The Movie Critic, as the accomplished actor has worked with Tarantino on six different occasions.

The Tarantino movies Jackson was absent from include his directorial debut, Reservoir Dogs, Kill Bill Vol. 1, Death Proof and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.

Leonardo DiCaprio, who has worked with Tarantino on two separate occasions, was also recently rumored to be starring in The Movie Critic, but talks stalled when the SAG-AFTRA strike began. While there’s no sure way to confirm any of these rumors, history suggests that, whoever eventually appears in Tarantino’s final movie, whether it’s one of his recurrent collaborators or a relatively new face, is going to do a stellar job.
