A Dark Tale About Online Presence

Influencer tells a terrifying tale of a woman who portrays her life as deeply satisfying to her significant online following, but she is plagued with loneliness and relationship struggles. While vacationing in Thailand and using the trip to grow her brand and create content for advertisers, Madison (Emily Tennant) meets a woman who lives her life with far fewer inhibitions. However, things take a turn when her new friend reveals a darker, more menacing motivation for spending time with Madison. Influencer plays on themes of loneliness and stolen identity, and while it toured festivals in late 2022, it wasn’t until 2023 that it got a wider release.

Despite only making under $150,000 at the box office, it’s a must-watch for anyone who is a fan of classic monster flicks as well as twisted sci-fi staples like Re-Animator and even Alien, which it has been heavily compared to. The element of motherhood adds another layer to the devastatingly twisted tale while achieving a sense of relevancy through the presentation of grief.
