Job Description:
The UF
Surplus is responsible for the appropriate disposition and sustainability of all “information technology,” electronic, medical/scientific
and furniture property surveyed out as surplus by all UF departments. UF Surplus fulfills UF’s sustainability commitment by reducing UF’s
waste by reusing technology within UF, reselling to the public or donating to the community, and recycling technology that is no longer
viable. The OPS performs the following:
- Media Postings: List on Instagram, Facebook information about the available items for sale
at UF Surplus. In addition, post information required on UF Surplus’ Craigslist site and UF Surplus’ Website to modify the site if required.
Create ads to post in various publications (both print and media) such as The Alligator for getting the word out of items available at UF
Surplus. - Assists customers in the Lobby Area with auction sales and departmental transfers. Provides an opportunity to connect with
social media audience and obtains feedback. - Online Auction Sales: Place surplus property on internet auctions that includes
photographing items and listing items for sale both electronic items and furniture items on auction sites with detail write-ups. - Testing: In the PC Shop/AV Shops, an electronic diagnostic facility for UF Surplus, will evaluate, troubleshoot, clean (includes data
wiping hard drives), repair, configure, optimize, upgrade, and renovate various equipment using tools and multiple software
diagnostics. - Sorting and Recycling: Separate items and sort through boxes that come into UF Surplus to place items in proper
locations. Items not sustainable will be palletized and sent to the E-Waste Recycler. - Hard Drive Processing: Remove hard drives
from equipment brought into the warehouse, wipe, grade or crush them.
Expected Salary:
$15/hour
Minimum
Requirements:
The person in this position must be physically able to lift/move equipment weighing up to 50 pounds and must be able
to work in extreme temperatures in a warehouse environment. This position requires a valid Florida Driver’s License.
Preferred
Qualifications:
This individual is preferred to have a knowledge of creating advertisements both print and media (including various
social media platforms), knowledge of IT equipment, ability to lift heavy objects when needed, and excellent communication skills. Ability
to organize and coordinate work activities; to follow written and verbal instructions; to establish and maintain effective working
relationship with others; and to project a positive and professional attitude with others.
