“It’s Been A Discussion And A Debate That Will Never Die”

The discussion and debate about whether Indian senior players should make way for younger players in the cricket team is an ongoing one. Anjum Chopra, a former Indian women’s cricket team captain, recently weighed in on the topic and stated that it is a discussion that will never die.

According to Chopra, it is critical to offer younger players the opportunity to display their skills and get more experience, but this should not come at the price of older players.

Making way for youngsters is a natural progression in any sport. However, in the context of Indian cricket, it’s crucial to handle this matter with caution and foresight. India has an incredibly talented pool of young players, and some of them have proven themselves in domestic cricket and at the international level as well. However, the world’s best batting line-up and the highly experienced bowling unit have played a significant role in India’s success in recent times.

The Indian senior players have been in excellent form and have consistently contributed to the team. It’s not fair to ask them to step down solely based on age. Instead, India needs to focus on finding a balance between experience and youth in the team. The players should be selected based on their current form and skill levels, not just their age.

“Common statement is the balance between youth and experience” – Anjum Chopra

Former Indian women’s cricket team captain, Anjum Chopra, has spoken about the balance between youth and experience in Indian cricket. While experience is important to guide and mentor young talent, there comes a time when senior players should make way for younger players to take over and build a new team.

“It’s been a discussion and a debate that will never die. Do we not need experience, do we not youth, how do we balance… and the common statement is the balance between youth and experience. You can’t say, “Thank you very much. We’ve had you for over the years but now we don’t need you. We’ve got youth coming in.”

“The youth will also take the same amount of time that an experienced player had taken to be there. If you think it’s that easy, then you would run the country with youngsters around and not many experienced guys” Anjum Chopra said in an interview with news18.com

“So, I don’t think that really works. You have to have that balance. Yes, you will have young players coming through – Shubman has come through, and so did Shardul and Siraj. The younger lot will keep coming through. It’s all about taking those opportunities and delivering at the right time” Anjum Chopra further sad.

“And if you talk about experience, Cheteshwar Pujara has been playing in England for the last three months through the season. So, who faltered, and what went wrong… a lot of things can be discussed” Anjum Chopra added.

“What happens in England, who doesn’t know that? Everyone knows everything. But knowledge is one thing and putting it into practice to get the desired result is another, which will not change, just like the debate about making way for the younger lot” Anjum Chopra further added.
