After a significant three-team trade was reportedly getting close on Wednesday, talks between the Boston Celtics, Washington Wizards and Los Angeles Clippers broke down in the evening, ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reports.

Earlier in the day, Wojnarowski reported the Celtics were looking to acquire Kristaps Porzingis from the Wizards. Boston’s Malcolm Brogdon would have gone to the Clippers, while L.A. was set to ship Marcus Morris, Amir Coffey and the 30th-overall pick in Thursday’s NBA Draft to Washington.
All three teams had to sort through details, including a $36-million player option Porzingis has for the 2023-24 season that needs to be exercised ahead of free agency.
Wojnarowski reports the Wizards are still investigating the possibility of dealing Porzingis to the Celtics if he accepts the player option.

Porzingis, who would become a free agent if he declines the player option, averaged 23.2 points, 8.4 rebounds, 2.7 assists, and 1.5 blocks in 65 games last season in Washington.
NBA insider Marc Stein reported the Clippers had concerns about Brodgon’s injury status.

Brogdon sat out Game 6 of the Eastern Conference Final with an elbow injury before returning for a Game 7 loss against the Miami Heat.
Brogdon averaged 14.9 points, 4.2 rebounds and 3.7 assists during the season.
It would have been the second significant deal involving the Wizards this off-season after the team traded Bradley Beal to the Phoenix Suns on Sunday for a package including Chris Paul, Landry Shamet, second-round picks and pick swaps.
