The Charlotte Hornets have never really had any kind of winning tradition, but they’re hoping their latest acquisition will help them establish one.

On Thursday, they took Brandon Miller with the No. 2 pick in the 2023 NBA Draft, and they seem to have high hopes for him.

Hours later, Miller took his first steps on the Hornets’ home court at Spectrum Center.

Miller is a 6-foot-9 forward who played one season of college ball at the University of Alabama, and he put up 18.8 points and 8.2 rebounds a game this past season for the Crimson Tide.

He is a very potent scorer, and he appears to also have potential on the defensive end as well.

Some feel his ceiling is becoming similar to Paul George, an eight-time All-Star and four-time All-Defensive Team selection who plays for the Los Angeles Clippers.

Coincidentally or not, Miller said just prior to the draft that to him, George is the greatest player of all time, greater than LeBron James or even Michael Jordan, who is currently the part-owner of the Hornets.

The Hornets are at something of a crossroads right now, as they haven’t made the playoffs since 2016 and have some decisions to make on some key players.

Kelly Oubre Jr. and Miles Bridges, among others, will be free agents, and they need to decide whether to keep investing in them or let them go.

Their centerpiece is LaMelo Ball, who has shown definite star potential in his three pro seasons but has also had trouble staying healthy.
