Waltham man claims third $1 million Powerball prize won in Mass.

Brendan Stewart of Waltham collected the third $1 million prize on Thursday, the last local winning ticket to be claimed of the July 19 Powerball drawing that featured a $1.08 billion jackpot, according to the Massachusetts State Lottery Commission. 

A ticket sold in California won the $1.08 billion jackpot, making it the sixth-largest win in U.S. history and the third largest in the game’s history, according to the Associated Press. 

According to the Commission, Stewart won when the first five numbers of his Quic Pic were drawn. He said he hopes to use part of his earnings to buy a smartwatch. 

Stewart purchased the Quic Pic at the Global Montello Gulf in Waltham, according to the Commission. 

The Commission wrote that Jan Busby of Norfolk and Rae Ann Wentworth-Cadieux of Hadley were the other two winners of the July 19 Powerball. They each claimed their million on Friday. 

Busby, who bought her ticket at Shaw’s Supermarket in Franklin, doesn’t typically play, but thought to give it a try since the prize was so high, according to the Commission. 

Wenthworth-Cadieux’s ticket was purchased in the Pride Station & Store in Hadley, according to the Commission. She hopes to buy a summer home with her winnings. 

The three stores which sold the tickets will each receive a $10,000 bonus. 

If you’re thinking about playing your lucky numbers, this Saturday’s jackpot is an estimated $60 million.
