Nick Wright Downplays 1 QB’s Performance In Week 1

The San Francisco 49ers had a near-perfect start to the 2023 NFL season.

They sacked Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Kenny Pickett five times, limiting the rushing attack to 41 yards.

On offense, the Niners scored three touchdowns, courtesy of Brandon Aiyuk and Christian McCaffrey.

It would have been a shutout if Pat Freiermuth had not had a three-yard touchdown catch.

But while the 49ers were impressive in that season-opening road victory, they still have their fair share of naysayers.

In particular, FS1’s Nick Wright does not believe in quarterback Brock Purdy.

Wright mentioned that the NFC West squad could have played at the same level with another quarterback like Kirk Cousins or Matthew Stafford.

Wright also predicted that the Kansas City Chiefs would achieve a perfect season and got a tattoo to support his claim.

What might have happened to the San Francisco 49ers last season if Purdy had not suffered an elbow injury during the NFC Championship Game?

Before that setback, the 2022 NFL Draft’s “Mr. Irrelevant” won his first five games as a starter.

He also helped the Bay Area-based squad to win last year’s Wild Card matchup against the Seattle Seahawks and the Divisional Round battle versus the Dallas Cowboys.

Purdy completed 19 passes for 220 yards and two touchdowns against the Steelers.

Wright’s take doesn’t make sense because Purdy has exceeded expectations.

The 49ers might be gearing up for another deep playoff run if he remains healthy.
