The New Orleans Saints will activate their contingency plan at quarterback following Derek Carr’s Week 3 injury.
While Taysom Hill is on the roster, the Saints will go with Jameis Winston at quarterback.
It’s not the first time Winston will start for the Saints.
He was their starter during the 2021 season, leading the Saints to a 5-2 record.
Unfortunately, a torn ACL derailed what could have been a promising season.
Carr had nothing but praise for his fellow quarterback, saying that he can consistently win as a starter.
“Jameis is a starter in this league. We have a couple guys that can start NFL football games in our room, and Jameis is another one of those guys. Jameis came in — in practice, I take every rep — and he did a great job of stepping in with no reps and playing good football,” Carr said, via Around the NFL.

Carr sustained a big hit from Green Bay Packers outside linebacker Rashan Gary during their Week 3 matchup.
That tackle forced the Pro Bowl quarterback to leave the game early, allowing Winston to take over.
Unfortunately, the Saints’ hopes of starting the season at 3-0 were dashed by a touchdown pass from Jordan Love to Romeo Doubs.
Worst yet, Carr’s shoulder injury will sideline him for the foreseeable future.
He will be day-to-day until the swelling reduces and he moves his injured shoulder without pain.
Luckily for the Saints, Winston’s knowledge of the Saints offense makes him a suitable replacement.
Getting Alvin Kamara back on the field this week will help as well.
