In April 2023, Fox canceled The Resident after six seasons. The gradual declining of the ratings was likely the primary reason for cancellation. On average, season 6 drew about 6.9 million viewers per episode, a 12% drop from the season 5 numbers and 35% drop from the season 1 numbers. Despite the cancelllation, the series managed to give its main characters conclusive endings. Conrad confessed his love for Billie and saved his job, whereas Devon and Leela got engaged.
