A climber finds alpine tranquility and clarity on Glacier Peak climb

Photo taken: July 30, at Glacier Peak

Photographer’s description: “Glacier Peak was the last Washington volcano on my list, a remote summit in the middle of the North Cascades. It truly is one of the most beautiful locations in the state. After a successful summit attempt, we began our return trip, passing multiple alpine lakes. As the clouds cleared, I was able to get a picture of my climbing companion Nathan as he walked past the tranquil lake, the reflection adding to the beauty of the surroundings. Shot on Sony a7 III w/50 mm lens.”

Critique: “This is a gorgeous photo of what must have been a satisfying return trip. Your companion is framed and reflected at the perfect spot in front of the fog and in midstride. His clothing pops against mostly monochrome surroundings — a feat in itself, considering how subtly awash in color this image is. The mountain’s reflection in the water is a sight to behold as well, nearly unblemished by the time we see its summit in the foreground. I think a small crop — in from the left and up from the bottom — could allow the best elements of the picture to stand out a little better, but all in all, this is stunning. Thanks for submitting!”
