The 2023-24 NBA regular season hasn’t even begun yet, but there’s already been a lot of talk about what will happen after the upcoming season, with the 2024 Olympics set to take place in Paris, France, next summer.
With Team USA finishing fourth in the FIBA World Cup recently, there’s been a lot of buzz about which star players in the NBA would be willing to sacrifice their summer to help the Americans get back on top in the world of international basketball.
Along with head coach Steve Kerr looking to put together a team filled with superstar talent next summer, Canada also has high expectations, as they finished ahead of the Americans in the FIBA World Cup with a stacked squad led by Shai Gilgeous-Alexander of the Oklahoma City Thunder.
One Canadian NBA star who wants to represent his country next summer is Andrew Wiggins of the Golden State Warriors, who let it be known he plans to be on Canada’s squad in Paris, according to Mark Medina of Sportskeeda via Legion Hoops.
Andrew Wiggins:
“The goal next year is to be with [Canada] in the [Paris Olympics]… I would love to be an All-Star. I would love to be on the All-Defensive team.”

If Wiggins does end up on Canada’s roster, he’ll likely join a talented squad that also has Gilgeous-Alexander, R.J. Barrett, Dillon Brooks and Luguentz Dort.
It’ll be interesting to see what other players eligible for the Canadian roster throw their name into the hat with the team’s intention to go overseas and get the best of the competition, especially when it comes to facing Team USA.
The rosters of these squads that intend to compete in the 2024 Olympics will continue to be a storyline over the course of the upcoming season.
