SALINAS – A Big Sur man has been sentenced to 30 years in prison for sexually molesting a minor over the course of several years, the Monterey County District Attorney’s Office announced Wednesday.
Last month, Jose Alfredo Boj Saquic, 33, pled guilty to three counts of committing forcible lewd acts upon a child under the age of 14. All three offenses are violent felonies and are considered three “strikes” under California’s sentencing laws.
Saquic was initially arrested in October 2022, per Monterey County Superior Court records.
According to a press release from the DA’s Office, a relative of Saquic’s – who authorities are only identifying as Jane Doe – reported that he had sexually molested her on several occasions when she was under the age of 14. Saquic would do so when nobody else was present, the DA’s Office said, and when he was tasked with babysitting Jane Doe.
Investigators say that the abuse took place over several years until Jane Doe reported it to a school counselor.
In addition to his prison sentence, Saquic will be required to register as a sex offender for life. The DA’s Office said a restraining order was also granted that prohibits Saquic from contacting Jane Doe.
