Canada’s Bianca Andreescu wins opener at Libema Open

Canada’s Bianca Andreescu is off to the second round of the Libema Open after beating Zeynep Sonmez of Turkey 6-4, 6-4 on Tuesday at the grass-court event in S’Hertogenbosh, the Netherlands.

The sixth-seeded Andreescu, coming off a run to the third round at the French Open, had a relative easy draw in her first grass match of the season as she topped the world No. 217.

Andreescu, from Mississauga, Ont., will next face world No. 102 Viktoria Hruncakova of Slovakia in the round of 16.

Fellow Canadian Carol Zhao won her first-round match on Monday and will next meet top-seeded Veronika Kudermetova. The Russian is ranked 14th in the world.
