With the 2023 NBA Draft now in the rearview and a few massive trades going down in the league, the attention turns to NBA free agency and the player movement that could take place in the coming weeks and months.
Although many teams are focused on free agency, the Portland Trail Blazers have a self-imposed dilemma, with the immediate future of superstar guard Damian Lillard being uncertain.
In the days leading up to the draft, it became clear that Lillard wanted no part in going through a rebuilding process with the Blazers, as he will turn 33 next month and is in win-now mode after arguably the best season of his NBA career statistically.
Lillard wanted the Blazers to use the pick, which was highly valued due to the ability to draft Scoot Henderson, as trade bait in order to bring in more veteran talent to help with the championship push.
That didn’t happen, and now everyone is wondering what will happen in Portland, especially after his latest Instagram Live session, with a telling song playing in the background via NBA Central.

The Miami Heat have been the one team linked to Lillard most often with his future up in the air, as he mentioned the Eastern Conference champions as a team he can see himself playing for because of his close relationship with Bam Adebayo.
Lillard also mentioned the Brooklyn Nets because of his ties with Mikal Bridges, but there’s been no real traction on that end, as that team could be standing pat.
Miami, however, seems to be aggressively pursuing Lillard, which makes things interesting in the future as a trade might be on the horizon.
