Clarkston (Mich.) standout Desman Stephens backed off from his long time pledge to Boston College on Oct. 3 and has been gaining steam on the recruiting trail since. Vanderbilt and Michigan State are the latest schools to extend offers since reopening his recruitment and the high three-star athlete has wasted little time exploring his options with visits to Purdue and Michigan State over the weekend.
Following Stephens’ pair of Big Ten visits, he caught up with Rivals to share his thoughts on each school and discuss what we can expect from his recruitment moving forward.
On schools Stephens visited over the weekend:
“I went to the Michigan State versus Michigan game and then to Purdue for practice,” Stephens said.
On Michigan State:
“Michigan State was a good experience,” Stephens said. “You could feel the energy on the field from the fans, the coaches, and most definitely the players. There was a lot of familiar faces down on the sideline during pregame. Then I had a great conversation with coach (Harlon) Barnett – that’s when I received my offer and learned about the plan they have for me. I watched the game with my family and that was the end of my visit.”
On Purdue:
“The Purdue visit went really well,” Stephens said. “I got to see the coaches which I have a good bond with again, and the supporting staff, so it was great. I got a good feel of the Purdue program as a whole. I feel like they have a good plan for me and are doing good things. Right now they are pretty high in my recruitment.”
On upcoming visit plans:
“I don’t have any other visits (scheduled right now),” Stephens said.
On his recruitment moving forward:
“Im not sure on the other schools,” Stephens said. “I’m really just taking it all in right now. I plan on committing (sometime) during the first two weeks of November.
