Last year, superstar center Joel Embiid of the Philadelphia 76ers was finally able to prove his doubters wrong as he had the best season of his NBA career and was finally able to get the nod over Denver Nuggets superstar Nikola Jokic for NBA MVP.

Coming into this season, Embiid had the same goal of leading his team to a championship while also adding another MVP to his trophy case, which would put him neck-and-neck with Jokic in that category.

Up to this point in the 2023-24 NBA regular season, Embiid is on track to win a second straight NBA MVP award, as he is having an even better season than he did last year while helping the 76ers be one of the best teams in the Eastern Conference yet again.

Unfortunately for the veteran center, an injury has derailed his chances of winning another MVP award and possibly the opportunity to win his first title, with Shams Charania of The Athletic reporting that the perennial All-Star has suffered a torn meniscus in his left knee.

With Embiid already on the threshold of being eliminated from MVP contention due to the new 65-game minimum rule, this injury will undoubtedly put him over the top, as he’ll miss considerable time, if not the rest of the season.

Before going down with this knee injury, Embiid was averaging a career-high 35.3 points per game to go along with 11.3 rebounds, 5.7 assists, 1.8 blocks, and 1.1 steals per contest while shooting 53.3% from the floor and 36.6% from deep.
