The Boston Celtics may have won the NBA offseason after the team was able to acquire veteran guard Jrue Holiday in a trade with the Portland Trail Blazers.
The storied franchise had already made strides forward by bringing in Kristaps Porzingis early in the summer, but adding Holiday to the backcourt is a game-changer and perhaps the one move that puts the Celtics over the top as the best team in the league to start the 2023-24 campaign.
Even though the Celtics were unable to acquire Damian Lillard, who ultimately went to the Milwaukee Bucks, the addition of Holiday may have been a better move for them, as it addresses the defense, which took a hit this summer with the departure of Marcus Smart and Grant Williams.
Celtics star forward Jayson Tatum recently spoke about the addition of Holiday and how he’s “extremely happy” about it, according to Chris Haynes of Bleacher Report via ClutchPoints.
“Jrue’s one of the most well-respected guys in this league. He’s a champion.” Tatum said.

On paper, the Celtics look like the best team in the league, with the best starting five right out of the gate in the Eastern Conference.
However, not a single game has been played yet, and there’s no telling how this new-look Celtics team will come together, and if they gel as everyone anticipates, they will do.
Only time will tell if the Celtics have put together something special and if Holiday was the missing piece to the championship, but Tatum is clearly excited, and so is the city of Boston, so it’ll be interesting to see how it all pans out.
