The Sunday Night Football matchup between the Buffalo Bills and Cincinnati Bengals was worth the pregame fanfare.
This game ended up being worth the price of admission, but there was a play in particular that was receiving significant criticism.
Josh Allen was called for a questionable intentional grounding penalty, which he discussed during a postgame press conference.
According to reporter Matthew Bove, Allen said, “I’ve never seen that call in my life.”

Josh Allen on the intentional grounding: I’ve never seen that call in my life. it’s an option route to Gabe. I’m expecting him to go but he made the read to stop and I threw the ball….I wouldn’t do anything any different.

This play was a deep ball to Gabe Davis, who went on a streak down the field.
Allen tried to hit Davis for a big gain, but the ball soared over his head, spurring this penalty.
The television announcers were perplexed by this call, and Allen and his teammates were puzzled as well.
While one play doesn’t typically determine the outcome of this game, many Bills fans have complained about the timeliness of this penalty.
It immediately took the wind out of the Bills’ sails, giving them greater difficulty to make progress down the field.
This loss was also untimely for the Bills, a team that is working desperately to make a deeper playoff run than they have in years past.
Allen has been a catalyst of success for this team, but for one reason or another, they have been unable to get it done in the postseason.
The Bills now stand with a record of 5-4, third place in the AFC East.
They trail both the New York Jets and Miami Dolphins, giving them an uphill road to a meaningful playoff seed.
