The New York Giants need Saquon Barkley as much as Saquon Barkley needs the New York Giants.

The Penn State product refused to attend the team’s mandatory minicamp and threatened to hold out if he’s not signed to a contract extension.

Notably, the team has backpedaled and is looking to make amends with him, with NFL insiders Dov Kleiman and Ian Rapoport reporting that they’ve placed their pre-franchise tag offer back on the table.

Kleiman adds that the offer was taken back when they placed him under the franchise tag, but they’re now considering it again.

The offer was reportedly up to $14 million, roughly $4 million more than the $10.1 million he would make by playing under the franchise tag.

All things considered, this might as well be the best offer Barkley could get.

His league-wide value might not be as high as he and his camp believe it is; otherwise, the Giants would’ve at least fielded the market for his services.

Barkley was one of the most disruptive offensive forces in the league early in his career, but he’s suffered way too many major injuries already, and teams are hesitant to give up a lot of money on running backs.

He’s still young and was the Giants’ best offensive player last season by a wide margin, but he’ll also have to meet them in the middle after they stood by him through all the injuries.

Now, it’s just a matter of whether it’s already too little too late and if his pride will stand in the way.
