For whatever reason, maybe due to his close relationships with several NBA players, Hip-Hop star Drake has always talked as if he were a part of the league.

The Hip-Hop star once again talked on behalf of NBA players when he mocked track-and-field star Noah Lyles when he called out NBA players for calling themselves World Champions.

That’s why Lyles didn’t hesitate to clap back at him when he doubled down on his criticism of NBA players saying they’re world champions.

Lyles told Chris Cohen that he believes the NBA is the best league, but they still need to prove themselves against teams from the rest of the world to get that distinction, also telling Drake to stay in his lane and sit this debate out (via Legion Hoops).

Notably, Lyles went viral again when Team USA lost to Germany in the FIBA Basketball World Cup semifinals.

It’s become more evident by the day that basketball is a global sport now more than ever, and the talent gap between the U.S. and the rest of the world is getting narrower in every competition.

No one denies that the NBA is the best basketball league on Earth by a very wide margin.

But it’s still the NATIONAL Basketball Association; thus there’s no point in calling yourself a World Champion unless you actually play teams from the rest of the world; it’s as simple as that.
