At the start of the summer Kieran Tierney was one of the main players expected to leave Arsenal this summer. After the arrival of Oleksandr Zinchenko, who changed the way Arsenal played last season, Kieran Tierney’s minutes have been dramatically reduced which has lead to him being linked with a move away from the club.
Zinchenko’s role in the side was a big reason why Arsenal had such a successful season during the 2022/23 campaign. He was basically undroppable when fit which lead to Kieran Tierney sitting on the bench more often than not.
Takehiro Tomiasyu and Jakub Kiwior have started in the left-back role ahead of the Scotsman recently which has lead to more speculation regarding his future.
Real Sociedad from Spain are the latest team to show an interest in the Arsenal fullback this summer. The Spanish side have enquired about taking the Scotsman on a one-year loan until the end of the season, as per Matteo Moretto. The Gunners are yet to respond, but it’s expected they will reject the idea of a loan move.
Kieran Tierney joined Arsenal from Celtic in 2019 and has since made 92 appearances for the club. He has scored a total of three goals and recorded nine assists as a left-back. Arsenal are back in the Champions League for the first time in seven years next season which could persuade Kieran Tierney to stay in North London as it offers an opportunity for him to get more minutes
Mikel Arteta recently spoke on Kieran Tierney’s future: “He is in our plans, and as you said, he came on really well on Saturday. It’s not the first time, every time he’s played in pre-season, he’s been really good.”
“This is why we want to create competition in the team, raise the level of each individual and that’s going to be a huge benefit for the team to get to another level.”
It appears the final decision will be up to the player after discussions take place with Mikel Arteta very soon. If Tierney wishes to stay at the club then Arsenal will be happy to have him for squad depth. However, if he wishes to leave then the North London outlet will listen to offers valued at around £40million.
