When Sean Payton accepted the head coaching job with the Denver Broncos, it seemed like a turning point for the fanbase.

Payton is a highly-respected veteran coach, and if anyone could turn their team around, it would be him.

However, the Broncos hold a 1-5 record through six weeks and are just coming off a blowout loss to the Kansas City Chiefs.

After this loss, Payton quickly blamed himself for many of the Broncos’ mistakes.

This included not calling a timeout after Russell Wilson was sacked in the second quarter, calling it “boneheaded,” according to reporter Andrew Mason.

This move was a rarity, as Payton has typically been known for tremendous clock management.

Throughout this game and for much of the 2023 season, the Broncos appear lost.

They have not found a solid team identity, causing both sides of the ball to suffer.

Russell Wilson hasn’t taken back command of the offense, resulting in the team scoring 21.5 points per game.

The Broncos’ defense is not what it used to be either, as they have allowed the most points per game across the entire league.

If they want to see an uptick in production for the 2024 season, changes need to be made.

Payton recognized this in the postgame press conference, and he will need to start relaying this information to his roster, hoping to inject a spark under their bellies.

What will it take for the Broncos to succeed moving forward?

Many have already called for Wilson to be removed as quarterback, and others have already suggested a new coach.
