Thousands still without power after severe storms across Houston area

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — Overnight, crews made progress restoring power to those who lost it during strong storms that pushed through the Houston area. But still, thousands of customers are without power.

Video from an ABC13 viewer shows a transformer spark as the storms moved through.

As of 9:00 a.m. Thursday, CenterPoint Energy’s outage tracker shows there are about 146,441 customers affected. The tracker shows the majority of the outages are being reported in areas just north and northwest of Houston.

Around 9:30 p.m. Wednesday, more than 275,000 customers were affected.

The atmosphere has stabilized after Wednesday night’s round of storms, though there is still enough moisture in place for some widely scattered showers and storms to develop on Thursday.

Rain chances stick around through Friday. Thursday actually brings the highest chance of rain at 40%, then it’s back down to 20% for Friday.

FULL FORECAST: Scattered showers and storms possible Thursday
