New Orleans Pelicans superstar forward Zion Williamson has been constantly criticized over the course of his short playing career thus far for not being in the shape that he should be in as a professional athlete in the NBA as the face of a franchise.
Even though Williamson hasn’t been able to satisfy his doubters during his career up to this point, he has put up numbers when healthy and showed the potential he has when on the basketball floor.
However, many believe that he can take his game to another level if he dedicates himself to being in shape and being the best basketball player that he can possibly be.
One player who can relate to the criticism that Williamson has gotten during his career with the Pelicans is Shaquille O’Neal, who was criticized for his weight management throughout his entire career despite the fact he won four NBA titles on his way to becoming a Hall of Famer.
Although O’Neal has criticized Williamson’s effort at times, he hasn’t criticized his weight because that’s what he dealt with, as he said on “The Rich Eisen Show.”

O’Neal said more than once that he did not criticize Williamson for his weight management because that would be hypocritical, but he can’t excuse the lack of effort, as he saw him not run hard at times, which is inexcusable in his eyes, especially considering the talent and potential he has to be great.
It’ll be interesting to see where Williamson’s career goes from here and if he ever flips that switch physically because if he does, the league will immediately be put on notice.
