At one point in time, the New Orleans Pelicans looked like one of the most promising young teams in the NBA with an incredibly bright future ahead, with stars Brandon Ingram and Zion Williamson leading the way for the struggling franchise.

After numerous injury issues for Ingram and Williamson over the last few years, it’s anyone’s guess if this team will ever reach its true potential with both stars fully healthy and playing at the top of their game.

Coming into this NBA offseason, the Pelicans seemed like an aggressive team ready to shake things up, but instead, they haven’t done much outside of drafting Jordan Hawkins and signing Herb Jones to a long-term deal.

On Sunday, the quiet Pelicans made a move to address the frontcourt, with the team coming to terms on a one-year deal with veteran center Cody Zeller, formerly of the Miami Heat, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.

Obviously, the signing of Zeller isn’t going to move the needle much, as it only provides a bit more depth in the frontcourt that already has Larry Nance Jr. and Jonas Valanciunas.

That said, it remains to be seen if the Pelicans brass has another move coming, as the team clearly wasn’t looking to free agency to make a considerable upgrade to their roster.

However, the Pelicans are a talented team as currently constructed and showcased what it can do when healthy in the first half of last season, but those injuries piled up and took away any chance of making a deep playoff run.
