Victor Wembanyama, the San Antonio Spurs‘ 7-foot-4 rookie phenom, is off to a solid start in the NBA, and there’s no telling where he will go from here.
He’s averaging 19.4 points, 8.4 rebounds, and 2.6 blocked shots a game to start the season, and last week, he exploded for 38 points in a 132-121 win over the Phoenix Suns in what could be a preview of the fury he is sure to unleash in the years to come.
Wembanyama made a confident statement recently on his ultimate potential in which he seemed to refer to himself as an “alien,” via Legion Hoops.

There are outstanding big men in the NBA right now such as Nikola Jokic, Kristaps Porzingis, and Anthony Davis who have been referred to as unicorns, but Wembanyama may be the most unique of them all.
He can handle the ball on the perimeter and even in the open court, and he has a fluidity that is rarely seen in big men, let alone big men who are nearly a foot taller than the average NBA player.
One of the best indicators of Wembanyama’s ceiling is the fact that he has already said he wants to win championships, as well as a couple of clutch performances he has already had.
In the win over Phoenix, he scored 10 of his 38 points in the final 4:12 to turn a tie game into a runaway Spurs triumph.
Just two days prior to that against those same Suns, he scored two late buckets to help his team overcome a huge deficit and win, 115-114.
Those who have the so-called “clutch gene” tend to rise to the highest levels of greatness when it’s all said and done.
