Loki season 2’s premiere features an exciting mystery surrounding its newest character and instant MCU breakout Ouroborus (Ke Huy Quan). Also known as O.B., it appears as though the head of the Repairs and Advancement department has a fully intact memory unlike his fellow agents working at the Time Variance Authority. This begs the question as to why He Who Remains allowed Ouroboros to keep said memory.
In Loki season 1’s ending, He Who Remains (Jonathan Majors) was revealed as the true founder of the TVA, having created the organization to help maintain the Sacred Timeline where his variants (like Kang) would never exist. To that end, several fictions were put in place to keep the agents of the TVA complacent such as the Time-Keepers. Likewise, it’s been revealed that agents like Mobius (Owen Wilson) and many others continually had their minds wiped, preventing them from remembering their past lives as variants while also ensuring they wouldn’t question the TVA’s true purpose. However, Loki season 2’s premiere implies O.B. never had his mind wiped.
He Who Remains Not Wiping OB’s Memory Hints At Ouroboros’ Importance
As the chief (and only) engineer at the TVA’s Repairs and Advancement department, Ouroboros is a key part of the Time Variance Authority. As such, Loki season 2’s premiere confirms he’s in charge of all the technology and inner workings of the TVA. He even wrote the entire TVA guidebook. However, Agent Mobius struggles to remember their history and even O.B.’s name due to the mind wiping by He Who Remains. Conversely, Ouroboros is able to recall their history with no issue, including his conversations with Loki after the God of Mischief time-slipped back into the distant past of the TVA. This establishes that O.B. possibly never had his mind wiped by He Who Remains.
It stands to reason that Ouroboros has always been far too integral to the TVA’s operations to be mind-wiped. After all, it certainly seems as though the entire organization would fall apart without him. While the full extent of his knowledge remains to be seen, it’s possible that O.B. may have been aware of He Who Remains’ role in founding the TVA. Although he seems innocent enough, it’s quite possible that O.B. knew the truth about the Time Variance Authority’s true purpose and the truth about his fellow agents all along. There’s also the possibility that Ouroboros was so isolated by his work that he wasn’t deemed a threat the same way the other agents would have been.
What OB’s Memory Could Mean For Loki Season 2
The TVA looks to be at risk of being destroyed thanks to the newly expanding multiverse. Needing to retrofit the TVA’s Time Loom so it doesn’t overload from the massive influx of raw temporal energy, perhaps O.B. will point Loki and Mobius in the direction of Victor Timely, the confirmed Kang variant who’s set to appear. Existing as an inventor of time travel giving lectures in 1901, perhaps Timely can help O.B. stabilize the Time Loom as a replacement for He Who Remains (who remains no more). At any rate, O.B.’s intact memory will likely play a big factor going forward in Loki season 2.
