Once upon a time, Luke Voit was considered a prime trade pickup by the New York Yankees.
When they acquired him from the St. Louis Cardinals in 2018, he became a premier source of power and walks.
In fact, many people might not remember this piece of data, but Voit actually led the league in home runs in 2020 with 22.
But his career has gone downhill since that year.
He went from excellent to a bad hitter in a span of three or four years, which is both sad and shocking.
He opened the season with the Milwaukee Brewers, who are always on the lookout for talented, powerful hitters on the cheap.
After a few disappointing performances and a neck injury later, he is again without a job.

The Brewers chose to designate him for assignment, which means they have ten days to trade him, place him on waivers, or release him.
It means he no longer has a place on Milwaukee’s 40-man roster.
Voit was hitting .221/.284/.265 with no homers, two steals, and a 54 wRC+.
That last stat measures offensive performance relative to the league average (100).
Voit has been 46 percent worse than his peers.
Since the Brewers now employ Darin Ruf, a similar player to him, Voit had no place on their roster anymore.
Several teams might be willing to give him a shot on a minor league contract.
Will he be willing to take one?
Now 32 and with no ability to play defense or run, Voit might not see major league action in the next few days or weeks.
