Sunnyvale teen named a Zero Hero for helping fight hunger – The Mercury News

Zero Hero

Sunnyvale teen Mike Nguyen has been named a Zero Hero for helping fight hunger locally. The Kings Academy student is among 150 students from 30 California schools to be recognized by the Kroger Company’s Zero Hunger/Zero Waste youth engagement program. Kroger is the parent company of local grocery chains Ralphs Grocery Company and Food 4 Less/Foods Company.

Mike is a member of a national 15-member Youth Advisory Council developed by Kroger that addresses issues including hunger, climate, responsible consumption and recycling.

Each student participated in collaborative sessions with guest speakers and discussions on Zero Hunger/Zero Waste, and were challenged to design and execute a community impact project. Mike created a Hunger Awareness Project to campaign for food security and to educate students, families and the Silicon Valley community on how they can make a positive impact and fight hunger together.

The Zero Hunger/Zero Waste program is open to students ages 14-24 in the United States. For more information, visit https://innerview.org/pages/awards/#kroger-award.

New U-Haul dealer

Excel Auto recently signed on as a U-Haul neighborhood dealer to serve the Sunnyvale community. Located at 964 E. El Camino Real, Excel Auto will offer services like U-Haul trucks and support rental items.

Because no financial investment is required to be a dealer, these local affiliates are not U-Haul franchises. More than 21,000 car dealers across the U.S. and Canada are generating supplemental income through their U-Haul affiliation.

Excel Auto’s hours are Monday-Saturday, 11 a.m.- 2 p.m. To reserve U-Haul products, call 408-461-6606 or visit https://www.uhaul.com/Locations.
