Rep. George Santos’ former campaign treasurer is set to plead guilty in a federal court on Long Island on Thursday.
Nancy Marks, who reportedly worked for dozens of other Republican candidates over several years, resigned as treasurer of the Santos campaign in January. She departed her post at the same time the embattled Republican congressmember faced increased scrutiny over his campaign finances and the unraveling of his purported biography.
A court spokesperson for the Eastern District of New York could not comment on the charges Marks was set to plead guilty to Thursday morning. She is scheduled to appear before Judge Joanna Seybert at 3 p.m.
Santos did not immediately respond to a request for comment. He was indicted on 13 charges in May for money laundering and corruption charges. He pleaded not guilty.
Marks is the second member of Santos’ campaign — in addition to Santos himself — to face criminal charges. In August, campaign staffer Samuel Miele was indicted in the same federal court. Documents filed by prosecutors indicated that his case was directly connected to the charges Santos faced.
Prosecutors are reportedly in negotiations with Santos and his legal team in his ongoing case.
The next court appearance in that case is scheduled for Oct. 27.
This is a developing story and will be updated.
