One of the most hyped teams coming into the 2023 NFL season was, without a doubt, the Detroit Lions, who came just short of making the NFL playoffs last year after a strong finish to the 2022 campaign.

A lot of the team’s success coming into this season would be on whether veteran quarterback Jared Goff could continue to play well after having his first Pro Bowl season in Detroit last year.

Fortunately for the Lions, Goff is living up to expectations at this point and potentially surpassing them, with Detroit firing on all cylinders after six games.

After getting the best of Baker Mayfield and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 6, the Lions are sitting with a 5-1 record and appear ready to run away with the NFC North division title, as they already have a substantial lead on the Green Bay Packers (2-3).

According to former NFL player Bryant McFadden, Goff is a top-five quarterback in the league this season, via NFL on CBS.

Even though that initially seems like a bold comment to make, Goff has done enough this season while leading his team to victories on a weekly basis that he is in that conversation right now.

At this point, the San Francisco 49ers and Philadelphia Eagles might be the only teams in the NFC that can contend with the Lions, with a lot of the team’s success being attributed to Goff’s play.

In six games thus far, Goff has passed for 1,618 yards, 11 touchdowns, and three interceptions with a completion percentage of 69.5%.

Impressive numbers for a guy that seemed to be written off before he was traded to the Lions a few years ago.
