Raptors’ Olynyk leaves game vs. Pacers with back injury

The Toronto Raptors lost backup centre Kelly Olynyk on Wednesday night as he had to leave the game against the Indiana Pacers due to a lower-back strain, the team announced.

In just Olynyk’s third game with his hometown Raptors since being traded from the Utah Jazz, the Canadian seemed to suffer the injury during the first half of action against the Pacers.

He was originally downgraded to questionable while he received treatment for the strain, but did not return for the start of the third quarter and was officially ruled out.

Olynyk has averaged 14 points, 5.5 rebounds, and three steals in 21.5 minutes a game with the Raptors so far this season.

Toronto might not have been the only team to lose a player in Wednesday’s game as Indiana’s Aaron Nesmith took a hard fall, knocking into a stanchion, and was down and visibly in pain for a bit of time, before being helped back to the locker room.

The 24-year-old is currently listed as questionable to return (sore right shin).
