Rob McElhenney, co-owner of Wrexham, writes comical note for fan in need of watching FA Cup match with Blackburn: “They’re feeling a bit under the weather!”

Hollywood star and Wrexham co-owner Rob McElhenney has written a hilarious sick note for a fan hoping to watch tonight’s FA Cup clash with Blackburn Rovers.

The League Two side will be looking to pull off a major upset at Ewood Park, but one supporter is in danger of missing it due to work commitments.

They reached out to McElhenney, fellow Wrexham co-owner Ryan Reynolds and Wrexham for help on X by writing: ‘Hey @VancityReynolds, @RMcElhenney and @Wrexham_AFC, can you provide me with a sick note for work so I can watch the match on Monday?’

McElhenney was only too happy to oblige, as he replied with a letter that read: ‘To whom it may concern, @WrexhamCanada is hereby excused from work on Monday, January 29, 2024.

‘They have a weird cough or something. If that’s not enough of an excuse, let’s go with the flu.

‘Wouldn’t you hate to catch it if they showed up to work in that condition? They are cleared to come back on Tuesday, January 30, 2024.

‘Oh, I think that happens to be the day after the Wrexham match. Weird timing. Best wishes, Dr. McElhenney.

‘(Don’t Google my credentials, just trust me. I’m a real doctor.)’

A win over Blackburn would represent another huge step forward for Wrexham under the ownership of McElhenney and Reynolds.

Since the pair took over the club in November 2020, Wrexham have returned to the Football League and are on course for back-to-back promotions.

They currently sit second in League Two, five points behind leaders Stockport with a game in hand.

Wrexham can also take inspiration from another lower-league club as they go in search of a big cup win, after Maidstone United stunned Ipswich at Portman Road on Saturday to move into the fifth round of the FA Cup.

A win for Wrexham would see them set up a mouthwatering last-16 clash with Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United.
