All eyes were set on 2024, with Hrithik Roshan, Deepika Padukone and Anil Kapoor’ film Fighter being the the first big release of the year. The film is directed by Siddharth Anand, post the success of War and Pathaan. Fighter, which is released on January 25 coinciding with Republic Day.
Fighter is an aerial action drama that revolves around the life of an Indian Air Force pilot, played by Hrithik Roshan, who faces various challenges and dangers in his mission to protect the nation. Deepika Padukone plays his love interest and a fellow pilot, while Anil Kapoor plays his mentor and commander. The film also features Akshay Oberoi, Karan Singh Grover, and others in supporting roles.
Re Edited Version Of Fighter Gets Rejected By UAE Censor Board Second Time Too
In a shocking turn of events, the highly anticipated action thriller Fighter, starring Hrithik Roshan and Deepika Padukone, has been banned from releasing in all Gulf countries in second screening too as makers submitted re – edited version. The film, directed by Siddharth Anand, was scheduled to hit the theatres on January 25, 2024, coinciding with the Republic Day holiday in India but was banned before release. Makers re submitted the film but again got rejection from censor.
Film didn’t set box office on fire in India as it is struggling to cross 185 cr nett lifetime which is below par considering the budget and cast. To put things in perspective, Hrithik Roshan starrer Siddharth Anand film Bang Bang scored 185 cr nett 10 years back in India. Though film has performed fairly in rest of overseas market and will cross 12 million USD lifetime there.
The film failed to get clearance from the GCC Censors, who probably found some scenes and dialogues in the film to be offensive and inappropriate for the audience. The exact reason for the ban is not yet known, but it is speculated that the film may have depicted some sensitive issues related to politics.
Fighter to lose potential significant overseas business
The ban is a huge setback for the film, which was expected to rake in a good amount of business from the overseas market, especially from the Gulf region, where Hrithik Roshan and Deepika Padukone have a huge fan following. Most recently, Tiger 3 was banned in Kuwait and Qatar. Fighter may lose out on business of around 500k to 1 million dollars due to the denial of clearance in the Gulf countries by the GCC Censors.
